Celebration Quotation – January 25, 2016

Today’s quote is from The Taming of the Shrew:

"Do as adversaries do in law; strive mightily, but eat and drink as friends." The Taming of the Shrew; Act I, Scene 2

The line is actually spoken by Tranio, but it certainly applies to many relationships, including the marriage of Kate and Petruchio, who do “strive mightily’ before their happy ending.  We love this painting of the characters by James Dromgole Linton, created in the late 19th/early 20th century.  It’s amazing how many artists over the last 400 years have drawn, painted, and sculpted their own visions of Shakespeare’s characters and stories!
