Celebration Quotation – January 27, 2016

Today’s quote comes from one of our favorite sonnets: Sonnet 18

"Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?" Sonnet 18

The image is from a painting on a signboard from the late 1600’s/early 1700’s – the artist is unknown, but the work is very similar to the more famous “Chandos Portrait” that hangs in the National Portrait Gallery in London.  The Chandos is the portrait that many scholars believe to be the most likely accurate depiction of Shakespeare, and is the basis for many other portraits of the Bard, including the one printed in the First Folio.
