Celebration Quotation – February 19, 2016

Today’s quote is from Hamlet:

"There is nothing good or bad, but thinking makes it so." Hamlet, Act II, Scene 2

The image is an 1892 portrait by artist Frederick Henry Townsend of Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree (1852-1917) as Hamlet.  Townsend was a well-known literary illustrator, who illustrated works in some of the most popular writers of his day including Rudyard Kipling, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Oscar Wilde, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Charles Dickens and Charlotte Bronte.

Beerbohm Tree – an actor and theatre manager – was well-known for his work with Shakespeare.  In 1904, he founded the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) – the training ground of many of Britain’s greatest actors.  He was also the grandfather of actor Oliver Reed.
