Celebration Quotation – February 20, 2016

Today’s quote – a favorite on t-shirts – comes from Henry VI Part II.

"The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers." Henry VI-Part 2, Act IV, Scene 2

The line is spoken a minor character – Dick the Butcher – a member of a gang led by Jack cade, a pretender to the throne, but it wouldn’t sound out of place in today’s modern political campaigns.

The image – a 1795 illustration of Dick, cade, and their gang from the scene in the play in which this line appears, is by caricature artist Henry William Bunbury.  We can only assume that Dick is they guy with the axe.
