Celebration Quotation – April 5, 2016

Today’s quote is from the “Scottish play”:

"Sleep that knits up the raveled sleeve of care." Macbeth, Act II, Scene 2

The image is an engraving of a portrait of actor William Charles Macready (1793-1873) – named after his father (who was also an actor) the younger Macready eclipsed his father’s fame, becoming one of the most celebrated actors of his day.  Macready was greatly admired for his performances of Shakespeare – he is one of the artists credited with restoring King Lear to Shakespeare’s original text. For more than 150 year’s Shakespeare’s Lear been replaced on the English stage by poet Nahum Tate’s The History of King Lear – an adaptation of the play with a happy ending.
