Celebration Quotation – March 5, 2016
Today’s quote is from Hamlet:
In honor of Women’s History Month, the image we’ve chosen is a drawing of the great Sarah Bernhardt (1844-1923) in the role of Hamlet, which she played in productions in Paris, London, and New York at the turn of the century. While Bernhardt was not the first actress to lay Hamlet, she had very strong opinions about the character:
”I cannot see Hamlet as a man,’‘ she saiid. ”The things he says, his impulses, his actions, entirely indicate to me that he was a woman.”
How ironic does that make this line?
